Term 5, Week 2! 02.05.25

A wonderful learning week full of sunshine.

In English this week, we used the book 'Somebody swallowed Stanley' to inspire our learning. We created expanded noun phrases about the setting and our own 'Stanley' character. We then looked at different sentence types and wrote statements, commands, questions and exclamations. As well, we revisited contractions and how they are formed and used them in our writing.

In maths, we looked at height and length and answered problems linked to measurement. It was great to have lots of parents join us for Linger and Learn and work together as a team to answer different problem-solving and reasoning questions.

In science, we explored the different things plants need to grow healthy - water, light, warmth. We then set up an investigation to answer the question 'What happens to plants when they do not get what they need?' We have one plant getting all the important things, one plant that isn't getting water, one plant not getting any light, and another plant in the coldest room Miss Knapp could find at school!

The children have also come home today with their own broad bean seed to use their knowledge of growing a healthy plant to grow one at home! Happy growing!

In geography, we discussed 'what can we see in the sea?' The children shared great knowledge about different sea animals and plants, but also how the sea is full of rubbish, which is not good for the animals that live there. They then created posters sharing their knowledge.

Kestrels have also been working hard practising their class assembly to show you all next week! Please help your child practice their lines at home.

Star of the Week is….

Kennedy! For persevering with his handwriting and taking pride in his work.

Keep up the great work!
