Term 5, Week 4! 16.05.25

This week in maths we have been looking at millilitres and litres. After discovering what millilitres are and what we might measure in millilitres, the children explored different measuring equipment and read different scales on the jugs in millilitres.
In English, we have been focusing on SPAG-style questions and understanding what the questions are asking us. We also started to look at letter writing and how you can have formal and informal letters. We then looked at an example of a formal letter and created a checklist of features we could see.
In computing, we have been looking at creating media with a focus on music making. We used Chrome Music Lab to explore rhythm and how we can use the iPad to create music. The children loved exploring the different instruments and creating their rhythm pattern.
We then continued to use Chrome Music Lab and we explored drawing to make sounds. We had to create music that represents stars in space. The children noticed that if they drew shapes higher on the page the sound was a high pitch. If they drew shapes lower on the page the sound was a low pitch.
In music, we created pitch patterns using the notes C, E, G. We had to make a pitch pattern that matched the image of 'planet x'. The children explored the notes on their glockenspiels before deciding what pattern they preferred the best.
Our Science experiment update after two weeks:
Plant with everything. Plant in the dark. Plant in a colder room.
Plant without water.
The children love checking our plants and our experiments and making observations about their changes. I hope you have also enjoyed planting your own broad bean seed at home!
Star of the Week is…. Harleigh!
For showing courage and growing in confidence to join in with more class discussions. It has been great hearing your thoughts and ideas.
