Summer Term 1 Weeks 1 & 2

Introduction to our new class book and forest school!

It has been great to have all the Falcons back from the Easter holidays. It sounded like everyone had a good break and were ready to start learning again!

In English, we wrote recounts of our Easter holidays and then shared them with one another. Then, we started work based on our new class book, The Odd Fish. The children are excited by this story, which is to promote awareness of all the plastic in our oceans! To start off our new English unit, we explored ways to describe the characters in the book. Throughout our writing, we try to include exciting adjectives and connectives to extend our sentences. The children chose their favourite character from the book, drew a picture of them and labelled it with adjectives, and then wrote an extended piece of writing about why it is their favourite character.

In computing, we are learning about how to create digital writing. To do this, we had our first lesson using chromebooks, where the children had a chance to explore typing on a digital screen using a keyboard!

We had our first forest school session of the year! The children had a tour of the outside area, got to find insects that lived in that habitat, explored the area on their own and got to climb the trees as well as roast a marshmallow! It was lovely weather and all the children were engaged and excited.

In maths, we have been learning about length and height. The children had a challenge to order themselves into height order, which they managed to complete! We first measured with objects and compared lengths and height, then moved onto measuring with rulers and understanding what a cm is.

Please remember to send children in with their sun hats and water bottles! Especially as it is getting warmer.

Well done Falcons for your fantastic learning in the first two weeks back.
