Autumn 1, week 7
This week in Reception, we enjoyed reading the lovely story Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper. We talked about the characters — the Duck, the Cat, and the Squirrel — and thought carefully about what they might be saying to each other. Everyone wrote speech bubbles to show the characters’ conversations, and we had some fantastic ideas about how they were feeling!
To make our learning even more exciting, we decided to make our very own pumpkin soup! The children loved helping to peel, chop, and stir the ingredients together. We all tried some once it was cooked — and lots of owls thought it was absolutely delicious!
In maths, we have been exploring the part–part–whole model for 5. We learnt a fun number song to help us remember how to split 5 into different parts. The children enjoyed using cubes, counters, and their fingers to show all the different ways to make 5 — such as 3 and 2, 4 and 1, or 5 and 0.
Have a lovely weekend
