Autumn 2, week 1
We began by listening to lots of firework poems and paying close attention to the sounds hiding inside them. The children noticed how fireworks can hiss like sleepy snakes, pop like bubble wrap, or crackle like crunchy cereal. With those sounds in their heads, they set to work making glittery firework pictures.
Our Owls stretched their maths wings by exploring number bonds to 5. Using Numicon, they hunted for all the little “parts” that click together to make the number. The new class visualiser was the star of the show. The children loved using it as a tiny stage where they could demonstrate to their friends exactly how they built 5.
We also tiptoed back in time to learn about Guy Fawkes and the famous story of the Gunpowder Plot. The children even picked up a simple song about him, which echoed around the classroom with great enthusiasm.
In RE, we listened to the nativity story and found out that it came from a very special book called the Bible. The children had thoughtful questions and were captivated by the journey of the story.
Have a lovely weekend
