Week 1 & 2
What a wonderful 2 weeks!!
Dear Parents and Carers,
We’ve had a fantastic and very busy couple of weeks in Year 4, filled with brilliant learning, creativity and lots of hard work. Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to, along with a few important notices and reminders.
Notices
🎭 School Play
The children have brought home a letter about tickets for our upcoming performance, along with their individual lines. If you could support them by practising their line(s) at home, that would be fantastic. They are doing phenomenal work in school already – we can’t wait for you to see it!
💥 England Rocks – Times Table Rock Stars
Next week we will be taking part in England Rocks on Times Table Rock Stars from the 18th–20th. The children will be playing for 30 minutes in school each day.
If they could also complete 30 minutes at home, it would be amazing and will really support their confidence with multiplication.
Reminders
-
📚 Reading – Please read daily and write in reading records, so children can be entered into our weekly raffle.
-
✏️ Spellings – New spellings are stuck in reading records every Friday. Please practise these regularly.
What We’ve Been Learning
English
We have continued our narrative work linked to Escape from Pompeii. This week, we revisited using correct pronouns and applying the plural possessive apostrophe accurately—and the children smashed it! Their confidence in structuring sentences is growing beautifully.
Maths
We wrapped up our unit on adding and subtracting 3-digit numbers. We ended the unit with looking at how to check our methods to ensure answers are accurate.
We have now moved on to our multiplication unit, which will run for most of the term. We started with the 3× tables. Any extra practice at home would be hugely beneficial.
History
Our Romans topic has taken us into the world of law and order, comparing Roman systems with life in Britain today. The children have also explored how the Romans introduced numerals and a formal calendar system, changing Celtic life significantly.
R.E.
We have begun our new unit on What it means to follow God as a Christian. This week we explored the story of Noah and the Ark and discussed how the rainbow symbolises God’s covenant with Noah.
French & Music
French continues to be a hit with the class! We have now learnt numbers 1–12 and will revisit them daily.
In Music, we’ve started an exciting new Romans-themed singing unit, which the children are thoroughly enjoyed last week.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support at home. It makes such a difference to the children’s learning and confidence.
Have a lovely weekend!
