Autumn Term 2 Week 3

History fun, science investigation and lots of learning!

What a wonderful week we’ve had in Year 1!

We’ve been very busy in school with our Nativity rehearsals alongside all of our regular learning. The children have been fantastic at staying engaged and focused. You should have received a slip letting you know your child’s role in the Nativity!

We also welcomed some very special visitors this week...you! It was lovely to invite parents into school to join us for our History learning. The children were so excited to share what they’ve been working on, and it was wonderful to see so many of you getting involved.

In RE, we explored the question “who is Jesus?” The children discussed what Jesus is known for and the qualities he might have. They really enjoyed drawing their own interpretations of Jesus and writing his qualities around their pictures.

In Science, we investigated which materials are waterproof. This helped us decide which material would be best to fix Mrs Tyler’s broken umbrella! The children worked brilliantly as a team and recorded their findings carefully.

In Maths, we have been learning how to use a number line to add two numbers within 10. The children are becoming more confident with this strategy each day.

In English, we have been practising using bossy verbs in our writing. We wrote a class set of instructions as well as planned our own potions and used adjectives to describe what it would look like and bossy verbs to plan how we would make it!

Our new phonics sound this week is /er/, and the children’s spellings link to this learning.

Thank you, Falcons, for another fantastic week.

Have a lovely weekend!

Miss Hamilton :)
