Autumn 2 Weeks 2 - 5
What a busy and exciting few weeks we’ve had in Year 3!
In our English writing lessons, we’ve been learning how to use direct speech to make our characters talk, the power of three to add description and impact and prepositions to show where things happen. We’ve also been working on expanded noun phrases to make our descriptions more vivid. The children have been putting all of these skills together in their narrative writing this week.
In Maths, we’ve been practising column addition and subtraction, making sure we’re confident with the methods. Alongside this, we’ve been tackling problem-solving challenges, learning how to apply our maths skills in different situations.
In science we are continuing to learn about our topic on light. We’ve explored what a light source is, how we can see in the dark, and why the sun can be dangerous if we don’t protect ourselves properly. The children have enjoyed being scientists and investigating these questions.
In history, we’ve been discovering the impact of the Romans on Britain. We’ve looked at how they influenced our language, laws, time, roads, and towns. The children have enjoyed learning about what remains in Britain from this period of time.
In RE, we’ve started to explore The Trinity and what this means for Christians, sparking thoughtful discussions and questions.
Anti-bullying week a couple of weeks ago started with Odd Socks Day, celebrating how we are all different and how brilliant that is. Throughout the week, we talked about what bullying means, looked at different scenarios, and discussed what to do if you are being bullied and how to help our friends.
The children have been working so hard rehearsing for the Christmas performance—they can’t wait to share it with you next week! A huge thank you for your generous donations to our reverse advent. Your kindness is greatly appreciated.
