spring 2, week 3
This week Owls travelled all the way to Australia! We found Australia on Google Earth and explored where it is in the world. We looked closely at lots of pictures and talked about the amazing landscapes and animals that live there. The children then wrote captions to describe what they could see, including some wonderful descriptions of kangaroos, koalas and the beautiful Australian land.
In Drawing Club this week we read The Koala Who Could. The children loved Kevin the koala’s story and we learnt some exciting new vocabulary: daring, clambers, leap, and dash. Owls had great fun creating secret codes for Kevin and then used their ideas to write some fantastic magic sentences to match their drawings.
In Maths, we continued our learning about shape. The children worked hard identifying and sorting shapes with four sides, and then explored how they could combine different four-sided shapes to make new pictures and patterns.
A big thank you to Frankie’s mummy for coming in to talk to us about Australia. The children loved hearing all about the country and asking lots of curious questions.
Owls have also been busy getting ready for Mother’s Day. They enjoyed drawing portraits of their mums for our Guess the Mummy display and made some beautiful Mother’s Day cards.
Finally, a huge well done to our Star of the Week, George! George has been doing a fantastic job following our school promises and being a kind friend to everyone in the class.
Have a lovely weekend
