Here’s What We’ve Been Learning This Week

House Parliament
We had our first House Parliament meeting, where we introduced the By Brook Valley Citizenship Award. The information has now been uploaded to the website, and it is a fantastic opportunity for children to take part in extra tasks and missions. We are very excited to see the children get involved.

English
In English, we have started a new topic based on The Iron Man. The children will be writing persuasive letters debating whether the Iron Man should be set free. We have already begun engaging in lively debates and are starting to explore key persuasive writing techniques.

Maths
In maths, we have completed our perimeter unit. The children can now find missing lengths and calculate the perimeter of rectangles and rectilinear shapes. We have now moved on to fractions, where the children have built their own fraction walls to support their understanding.

Science
We have started our new science topic on states of matter. This week, the children learnt how to classify solids, liquids and gases, building a strong foundation for the unit.

Religious Education (R & W)
In RE, we began a new topic exploring Humanism. The children were introduced to what Humanism is and learnt about its five key values.

Computing
In computing, we have started our data logging unit. This week, the children explored different types of data and discussed why data is collected.

History
We have also begun our brand new history topic on the Anglo-Saxons. The children completed a pre-assessment quiz and learnt about where the Anglo-Saxons came from, as well as what life was like during that time.
