Reminders

  • Please check the letter sent home with your child, as it contains extra information and practice guidance for the upcoming Multiplication Check.
  • The children were a credit to By Brook Valley on our school trip, they were so respectful and showcased their love and passion for learning.

Here’s What We’ve Been Learning This Week

English
In English, the children wrote the introductions for their persuasive letters and focused on building complex sentences using main clauses, subordinating conjunctions and subordinate clauses. They experimented with where subordinate clauses can be placed within a sentence to create different effects.

Maths
In maths, we have moved on to decimals. The children have been learning about tenths and exploring how to divide one- and two-digit numbers by ten.

Science
Last week, we explored what happens when materials melt and how matter changes state. This week, we moved on to looking at how substances change from a liquid to a gas and from a gas to a liquid, developing our understanding of evaporation and condensation.

History
In history, we looked at how life changed during the Anglo-Saxon period compared to Roman Britain. The children imagined themselves as a Cyning and wrote about the changes they would introduce to Britain during Anglo-Saxon rule.

Religious Education (R & W)
In RE, we explored the Hindu Dharma creation story, learning about Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, as well as the significance of the Aum sound.

Music
In music, we focused on appraising music, listening carefully for the dynamics, instruments, timbre, texture and tempo within different pieces of music.

French
In French, the children learnt two new items of clothing and practised adding colours to describe them. They also learnt that in French, the adjective usually comes after the noun.
