Summer Term - Week 3

As we move further into the term, the children continue to impress us with their positive attitudes and hard work .

English
We have started our final English unit of Year 4, based on The Iron Man. The children will be writing a descriptive version of Chapter 1, bringing together all the writing skills they have developed throughout the year. This week, they summarised the events of the chapter, drew their own interpretations of the beach setting, and began writing descriptions inspired by both their own ideas and Ted Hughes' original text.

Maths
Our focus this week has been time. The children have explored the calendar system and practised working with hours, minutes and seconds. They converted between analogue 12-hour and digital 24-hour time and revisited key vocabulary such as o'clock, quarter past, half past and quarter to.

Science
We have now completed our science unit from the past two terms. To showcase their learning, the children created fantastic double-page spreads explaining the three states of matter, how substances change between these states, and how these changes are linked to the water cycle. The depth of understanding demonstrated was impressive.

RSHE
This week, we explored families and friendships, discussing how all families look different and how friendships can sometimes be affected by peer pressure. We considered ways to be inclusive and support others, even when they may not be our closest friends. A key message throughout the lessons was that kindness is key. We also discussed personal hygiene, focusing particularly on oral hygiene and the importance of looking after our teeth and overall health.

History
The children reflected on the impact of Alfred the Great, summarising how his actions following the events surrounding the Twelfth Night helped shape Britain and influence its future development.

Creative Arts
Friday had a special focus on Father's Day and preparing for Gallery Night. The creativity, effort and attention to detail shown by Hawks has been absolutely outstanding, and we are incredibly proud of what they have produced.
