Term 1, Week 1! 04.09.26

Welcome back to a brand-new school year!
What a fantastic first week we have had in Kestrels Class! The children have settled back into school brilliantly and have impressed us with their excellent focus, enthusiasm and positive attitudes to learning.
We have spent some time getting to know each other and thinking about what makes our school such a special place. We reminded ourselves of our school vision and thought about what it means to us and our school. We discussed why our class is called Kestrels and the legacy of Daniel. We also talked about our trusted adults and why it is important to know who we can talk to if we are worried, upset or need some help.
We created our leaves for our 'roots to grow, wings to fly' tree in the class and thought about what we would like to achieve by the end of year 2. The children shared their hopes, goals and things they would like to get better at during the year. It has been wonderful to hear their ambitions!
The children created their own prayers. We had morning prayers, lunchtime prayers and end-of-day prayers. These will go into our Kestrels class prayer book so that we can choose from it every day.
In Maths, we have been developing our understanding of two-digit numbers. We have been exploring how many tens and ones are in different numbers and using Base 10 equipment to physically build the numbers. The children have then challenged themselves to represent these numbers in different ways, including writing them as numerals and words.
Our English learning this week has been inspired by the wonderful film Up. As part of a whole-school write, we have been using the trailer to spark our imaginations and inspire our writing. We began by looking closely at the characters Carl and Russell. We thought carefully about their appearance, personalities and characteristics before using adjectives to describe them. We then turned our attention to the amazing house! The children came up with some fantastic adjectives to describe what it looks like.
Star of the Week!
Nimrat for great focus in all her learning and always showing the school promises.
Reminders:
- PE days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
- Please bring in reading books and reading records every day and read 5 times a week at home. Remember an adult needs to sign the reading records.
Have a wonderful weekend!
