What a busy and exciting week we have had in Year 1! The children have continued to settle beautifully into our routines and have worked really hard throughout all of our learning.

This week in maths, we have been learning to count forwards and backwards and have been using number lines to help us work out one more and one less. We have even challenged ourselves to write our own addition and subtraction number sentences!

We have now completed our UP Drawing Club unit! The children have used their imaginations to think about what could come crashing through Carl's window while his house was flying through the sky. They also had lots of fun describing where Carl's house landed, using fantastic vocabulary and creative ideas.

In science, we continued exploring different materials. We thought carefully about the materials we had learned about and investigated the different objects that could be made from them. The children have been fantastic at spotting materials in the world around them!

We have been enjoying our challenge time, where the children have been experimenting with primary colours. We discovered that when we mix different primary colours together, they create new colours! The children loved predicting what might happen before trying out their colour combinations.

We have been thinking about the question “Who made the world?” and talking about our wonderful world. The children then created their own drawings of the world, sharing their ideas and thoughts through their artwork.

We have also been practising our number formations and working hard on our handwriting. This week, we focused on the letters c and a, making sure we formed them carefully and correctly.
