What an exciting week we have had in Year 2!

Our English learning began with a mystery… something had crash-landed in our forest area! We became investigators and explored the scene, wondering what could possibly have landed there. We soon discovered that our visitor was Beegu, the little alien from our story! We have been busy creating a story map with actions to help us retell Beegu’s adventure. We have also been developing our descriptive writing skills by writing expanded noun phrases to describe Beegu. We have enjoyed thinking carefully about the words we can use to bring our descriptions to life.

In Maths, we have been learning how to compare objects and numbers. We have been using the symbols more than (>), less than (<) and equal to (=) to show how amounts and numbers compare. We have enjoyed becoming mathematical detectives and carefully deciding which symbol is needed!

Our science learning has taken us into the world of materials. We have been looking at different objects that are made from the same material and thinking about why this might be. We have been exploring the properties and uses of materials and discussing why particular materials might be chosen to make different objects.

During our class worship sessions, we continued thinking about our value of generosity. We have discussed what it means to give generously and thought about the different ways people can be generous. We have considered how generosity isn't just about giving money or possessions — we can also generously give our time, kindness, help and attention to others.

We also had lots of fun celebrating European Day of Languages! In Year 2, we have been finding out about Italy. We looked at the Italian flag, located Italy on a map and learnt how to say hello in Italian. We were also very lucky to welcome visitors who taught us some Spanish, French and German. It was fantastic to hear different languages and have a go at speaking them ourselves! We particularly enjoyed noticing the patterns and similarities between different languages. It was fascinating to discover that some words sound or look similar, even when they come from different countries.
