We have worked so hard this term creating and perfecting our big cheerleading dance for the BBV Dance Festival which is happening next week. We are all really excited to share our routine with the rest of the school!
We have also been trying hard to improve our scores on TTRS. Ms. Davies has set the whole school a challenge to get a higher place on the leader board for schools in the local area. We are determined to do it!
In French, we have been learning the vocabulary linked to sports and wrote pieces about the Paris Olympic Games.

We began the week with a whole school assembly to introduce Black History Month. Each class will celebrate, remember and learn about the achievements, contributions and experiences of Black people throughout history and today. Our new topic in maths is fractions. We learnt how to turn mixed numbers into improper fractions and vice versa. We also held our Harvest Service in Yatton Keynell Church. In science, we planned our own Titanic-based science experiment. Some groups wanted to investigate which lifeboat design would hold the most passengers and other groups are looking at the effect of cold water on the human body.

This week, we have been learning how to accurately calculate multiples and then use them to solve division problems. In R&W, we learnt about the five pillars of Islam (shahadah, Salah, Zakat, Saum and Hajj) and how they help to show a Muslim's commitment to Allah. Finally, as part of our Young Leaders role at BBV) we taught KS1 children some playground games. "It was so fun and it helped the younger children get to know and trust us." - Sophie. "It helped us to make better friendships with the younger ones." - Aelora.

This week in maths, we have been learning about common multiples and factors. We then used them to solve tricky calculations. In English, we recapped our knowledge of word class and used it to write expanded noun phrases based on a picture from our class book, The Arrival. In science, we carried out our experiment on what happened to the body temperature of the passengers in the lifeboats from The Titanic. Our results showed that passengers in under-filled lifeboats had a lower body temperature than those on the over-filled boats.

We are learning about place value in maths and have drawn number lines to help us understand things like negative numbers. In English, we have learnt how to write direct speech and how to create an atmosphere with our descriptive writing. In music, we are creating our own Eagles Class pop band. In our first lesson, we listened to the song we are going to perform and concentrated on the tempo and lyrics.

It has been so wonderful to be back in class and to hear all about your adventures over the summer. Everyone has settled back into school brilliantly and we can't wait to share our learning with you here over the course of this year.
The curriculum newsletter has been sent home which explains our topics and information such as PE days and when weekly spellings will be tested.
