Summer 1 Week 2
A lovely sunny week full of learning in Hawks!
This week we have started our unit on decimals in maths. We have learnt about how closely they are linked to our fractions and have been able to show tenths as decimals! In English, we have been focusing on our descriptive narrative writing and being able to weave description into our stories. We loved writing the beginning of our story based on the clip 'Catchit' about some mischievous meerkats.
In computing this week we have been learning all about photo editing and whether or not it is ethical. We learnt how to crop images and rotate them to make them better for the viewer. We loved creating our own nature photographs of our school grounds, we then edited them in our classroom!
We also went to Year 6 to teach them how to use the microbits! They were very grateful and have been using them more this week as a result of us passing on our microbit knowledge!
In geography, we have been looking at what we already know about Africa as a continent and any misconceptions we had about it. We learnt that Africa holds many different countries (54 to be exact) and that in Africa over 3000 different languages are spoken! We learnt about the variety of people that live there and the variety of landscapes that make up the continent.
Sport and movement:
We also thoroughly enjoyed our second session of cricket with Hywel and our swimming sessions at the Olympiad! We have been having some extra brain breaks outside to help us focus on our learning in the classroom, as we know that moving our bodies helps us to focus our brains!
Folk Festival Preparation:
This week we had some special visitors come into school to help us and Year 3 prepare for our trip to Chippenham Folk Festival at the end of this term. We learnt a variety of folk dances that we will do on the day and had a fun time doing so! We can't wait for our trip at the end of term to have fun, celebrate folk dancing and music and celebrate with other local primary schools!
Star of the week:
This week's star of the week is ... Milah! Milah has had a super-positive week full of good choices, hard work and smiley faces! Well done Milah! Keep it up :).
Things to remember:
- This term our PE days are Thursday (cricket) and Friday (swimming).
- Next Wednesday is our optional parents' evening to discuss anything you would like to from your child's report.
- Please bring in reading records each day to school.
- Water bottles in school each day and a sun hat as the weather has been very sunny.
Have a lovely bank holiday weekend! See you on Tuesday!
