Week 6

Well done Hawks for completing week 6!

🌋 Year 4 Weekly Update 🌋

What a busy and exciting week it’s been in Year 4!

In English, we’ve started our brand-new narrative topic. The children have been diving into Escape from Pompeii and exploring how to set the scene with powerful description. They’ve really impressed us with their creative ideas and use of language to bring ancient Pompeii to life!

In Maths, we wrapped up our place value topic. The children have been rounding numbers with confidence and have started learning about Roman numerals. We even became number detectives this week—investigating what different numerals stood for—and finished off with a game of Roman Numeral Bingo!

Over in History, we’ve continued learning about Roman Britain, focusing on what life was like for the Celts during the Roman invasion. This has set us up perfectly to meet Boudicca next week—everyone’s very excited to find out more about her story!

In Art, the children explored the work of our artist of the term, Stephanie Peters. They experimented with creating their own pieces in her vibrant, textured style—our classroom is now full of colour and creativity!

A huge well done to the whole class for their amazing performance this week! All their hard work paid off—they performed brilliantly and handled the little music mishap like absolute pros! 🎭👏

Please remember to keep practising spellings at home. It really helps when children write the words in sentences and understand their meanings. A top tip for remembering tricky ones like could and would: think of the phrase “Oh U Lucky Duck” to remember the ‘ould’ ending!

We’re also working hard on our times tables, using skip counting and chanting to help recall. Any extra practice at home—especially chanting or quick-fire questions—will make a big difference!

Have a lovely weekend, everyone—you’ve all earned a rest after such a fantastic week! 🌟
