Week 3 & 4

Over the past two weeks, the children have been incredibly busy. Here is a round-up of everything we’ve been getting up to
🎭 Play Practice
A big focus over the last couple of weeks has been our dress rehearsals as we get ready for the play on 9th December. The children have been learning their lines beautifully, and their confidence is really shining through. If they could continue practising at home, that would be brilliant. We can’t wait to share all their hard work with you!
📚 Reading
Thank you for your continued support with reading at home. If we can keep aiming for reading 5 times a week, and ensure these are recorded.
✍️ English
We have now finished our narrative unit on Escape from Pompeii. The children used fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases and speech to bring their stories to life, and it has been a joy reading their wonderfully creative endings.
We have now moved onto a poetry unit inspired by The Tyger by William Blake, and the children will soon be creating their own dragon poems using similes, alliteration and rhyme.
➗ Maths
In maths, we are continuing our multiplication and division unit. We have secured the 6 and 9 times tables and have now moved onto the 7s. The children have been using chanting for rapid recall, as well as counters and arrays to understand division and what it means to share and group within the 6, 7 and 9 times tables.
🏛 History
We are wrapping up our unit on the impact of the Roman Empire on Britain. The children have explored how the Romans brought straight roads, Latin-based language, and new systems of law and order that still influence our lives today.
🔌 Science
We have also completed our science unit on electricity. The children learnt where electricity comes from, how circuits work, what is needed to make a circuit function, and the difference between electrical items. We ended the unit by discussing the big question: How would we cope without electricity? — which led to some brilliant ideas.
✨ Final Note
It has been a brilliant couple of weeks, and the children have worked incredibly hard. We are very excited for you to see their performance soon.
Have a lovely weekend!
