Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!
Our first week back is now complete, and the children have settled back into routines extremely well. It has been lovely to see such a positive and focused start to the new term.
Reminders
-
Please ensure children are reading five times a week and that this is recorded.
-
P.E. lessons take place on Wednesdays and Fridays:
-
Wednesday – Tag Rugby (outdoors): Children should bring spare socks, suitable footwear and trousers.
-
Friday – Swimming: Please remember swimming kits. Girls may bring a hair towel to wear on the bus to help their hair dry.
-
Worship
This week, we explored Epiphany and its two meanings. The children reflected on the journey of the Wise Men and spent time thinking about new hopes and intentions for the year ahead.
Curriculum Overview – New Topics for Term 3
English
We have begun a unit on non-chronological reports. Over time, the children will be writing a report on how weather impacts Florida, linking closely with our geography learning. This week, we identified key features of report writing and revisited present and past tense, focusing on how to recognise them within texts.
We have started a new book: The Boy Who Biked The World: Part Two: Riding the Americas
Maths
In maths, we introduced area. The children learnt how to count squares to find the area of a shape, explored what rectilinear shapes are, and used their times table knowledge to calculate area more efficiently without counting each square.
Geography
Our new geography unit asks the question: How does the weather impact Florida? The children created a knowledge web and revisited key geographical concepts they have learnt in previous years.
Religious Education
Our new RE question is: How important is it for Jewish people to do what God asks? This week, we explored what kosher means, identified different kosher foods, and discussed the rules and reasons behind kosher practices.
French
We have started a new French unit focusing on listening skills. The children practised following French instructions, recognising key words, and matching actions to spoken language.
PSHE
We have begun our new Healthy Me unit, which will focus on understanding how to make healthy choices and look after our wellbeing.
Birthday Books
This year, we are introducing Birthday Books in our class. Rather than banning sweets, we would like to encourage children, if they wish, to donate a book to the class on their birthday. This will help us build a rich and varied class library that everyone can enjoy throughout the year.
Thank you for your continued support. It has been a fantastic start to the term, and we are looking forward to the weeks ahead.
