Week 5!
Another great week in Hawks!
We have had another busy and productive week in class, with the children continuing to show great focus and enthusiasm across all areas of learning.
Reminders
-
Please continue to read with your child five times a week and record this in their reading record.
-
Please continue to support regular practice on Times Table Rock Stars to help build speed and confidence with multiplication facts.
-
For swimming lessons, please ensure children bring swimming goggles and a swim hat.
Here’s What We’ve Been Learning This Week
English
In English, the children planned an introduction for a non-chronological report and had a go at writing it. This has prepared them well for completing their hot writes next week, where they will apply all of their learning independently.
Maths
In maths, we focused on multiplying a two-digit number by a one-digit number. The children used place value charts and part–whole models to help break down calculations and deepen their understanding of the process.
Science
In science, the children continued to build on their understanding of living things through earlier learning.
Religious Education
In RE, we finished our topic on “How important is it for Jewish people to follow what God tells them to do?” The children reflected on their learning and demonstrated a strong understanding of key beliefs and practices within Judaism.
Computing
In computing, the children explored programming using Logo online. They used commands to make an arrow move, typed more than one command, and planned how to create different shapes by using angles and programming forward and backward movements with accurate step counts.
Geography
In geography, we investigated why Florida experiences high levels of rainfall. The children learnt about the influence of the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, as well as Florida’s location in relation to the Equator, and how these factors affect the climate.
