ST2 - Week 2

The children celebrated World Book Day by decorating their door. I wonder if you can guess the book?
Week 2 round-up:
Reminders:
Continue to play on TTRS - working up to 5 soundchecks a week at home.
Continue to read 5 times a week, and make sure this is logged on their reading records.
Here’s What We’ve Been Learning This Week
English
In English, we continued working with The Windmill Farmer. The children explored the rules of direct speech as they began writing dialogue for the farmer. We also learnt about personification, bringing the storm from the video to life by describing it with human emotions and actions.
Maths
In maths, we have now moved on from multiplication and begun looking at division. The children were introduced to the bus stop method and practised dividing with remainders. Please continue practising times tables, as a strong knowledge of these will greatly support the children as division becomes more challenging.
Science
In science, the children created their own classification keys for different animals. They used their learning from last week about animal characteristics to help them design clear and effective keys.
Guided Reading
We have continued reading The Boy Who Biked the World. The children have been developing their inference skills, carefully analysing the text and learning how to read between the lines to understand deeper meanings.
Religious Education
In RE, the children learnt how the Lord’s Prayer teaches Christians about forgiveness and discussed who forgiveness is shown to within the prayer.
French
In French, the children learnt the names of different items in the classroom and practised labelling them using French vocabulary.
Art
In art, we explored the colour wheel, learning about primary and secondary colours. The children also experimented with mixing colours with white and black to create tints and shades.
Computing
In computing, we revisited online safety, discussing how activity online can be monitored. This led to an interesting class debate about whether internet use should always be supervised.
Computing (Coding)
The children also continued developing their programming skills using FMSLogo, where they learnt how to code a square using the repeat command.
