Summer Term - Week 2
Another fantastic week! Well done Hawks.
Reminders
- Please keep practising Times Table Rock Stars regularly.
Our magic formula is:
3 soundchecks, 3 studio games and 15 minutes on garage each week.
Little and often really helps to build fluency and confidence.
Here’s What We’ve Been Learning This Week
English
In English, we explored emotive language and how it can be used within persuasive writing to influence the reader—either by appealing to their emotions or creating a sense of urgency. The children also revisited prepositional phrases and practised writing expanded noun phrases with prepositions to make their writing more detailed and effective.
Maths
In maths, we have continued our work on fractions. The children have been learning about mixed numbers, how to add them together, and how to bridge from a fraction to a whole. We used a range of representations, including bar models and number lines, to support understanding. We will continue developing this next week.
Science
In science, we revisited how to classify solids, liquids and gases, focusing on particle behaviour. The children explored how the spacing and movement of particles determine the properties of each state of matter.
History
In history, the children learnt about the Anglo-Saxon invasion of Britain, exploring the different push and pull factors that led to migration and settlement.
Design and Technology (D.T.)
In DT, the children looked at seasonal fruits and vegetables, learning about the importance of eating seasonally and understanding where different foods come from.
Religion and Worldviews (R & W)
In RE, the children explored the links between Judaism and Christianity, focusing on the shared story of the creation of the world.
P.S.H.E
The class discussed grief—what can cause it, how it may look different for different people, and ways we can begin to navigate these feelings. The children were incredibly respectful, listening carefully to each other’s thoughts and experiences and contributing thoughtfully to the discussion.
Well done Year 2 on a fantastic class assembly!
