Summer Term 2 - Week 5
Another fantastic week!
Here's What We've Been Learning This Week
English
We have finished imitating Chapter 1 of The Iron Man and have now moved on to planning our own innovations. The children have come up with some wonderfully creative ideas and are getting ready to box up their stories before completing their hot writes after our turnaround lessons.
Maths
In maths, we have started our new unit on statistics. The children have been introduced to bar charts, pictograms and line graphs, learning how to read, interpret and plot data before solving a range of problems using the information presented.
History
This week, we completed our history unit by answering our big enquiry question: Why was King Alfred the Great such a significant figure in Chippenham? The children drew upon everything they have learnt throughout the topic to explain his lasting impact on both the local area and Britain as a whole.
Computing
In computing, the children continued developing their coding skills in Scratch. They programmed letter sprites by changing costumes, making them move using forever loops, and carefully considering direction, timing and the use of wait commands.
Physical Education (P.E.)
In PE, we focused on shooting skills through a range of different drills. The children demonstrated excellent perseverance, and it was lovely to see Hawks supporting and encouraging one another regardless of confidence or ability.
Art
The children completed their artwork ready for the Art Gallery. Their final pieces are truly phenomenal. They explored how our world could look if we cared for the environment compared to what might happen if we didn't. Their creativity and thoughtfulness shone through in every piece.
R.W
In R.W, we explored why Pentecost needed to happen and the impact it had on Christianity. The children learnt how Pentecost helped to form the early Church and discussed the Christian belief that the Church is made up of many different parts working together as one body. They made thoughtful links between the coming of the Holy Spirit, the spread of Christianity and the importance of each individual within a church community.
Sports Day
What an amazing day! The sportsmanship shown by every child was outstanding. Everyone gave their very best, encouraged one another and demonstrated the By Brook Values throughout the day. A huge well done to Biddestone House for winning this year's Sports Day!
