Summer 1 week 1

A great first week back!

We’ve had a great first week back after the Easter holiday. It was lovely to see all the children again — they settled straight back into routines and have made a brilliant start to the summer term.

In English, we introduced our new book for this term: The Iron Man. The children listened to Chapter 1, then brought it to life using actions and pictures to help them remember the key events. They have now planned how they will innovate the story to create their own versions next week.

In Maths, we began our new unit on mass. The children explored grams, practised reading scales, and compared the mass of different classroom objects. Lots of hands-on learning and great discussion.

In R&W we started our new topic on Humanism. This week, the children learnt what Humanism is and what Humanists believe.

Our history topic this term is about the Anglo-Saxons. This week, we explored who the Anglo-Saxons were and where they came from. The children enjoyed using maps and pictures to support their learning.

In Art, we learnt about the artist Georgia O’Keeffe and her beautiful landscape paintings. The children then sketched their own landscapes and used watercolours to add colour and detail. A photo of their artwork is shown at the top of the blog — they should feel very proud.

The Star of the Week is Francis. Well done Francis!

Citizenship Award

This week, the children were introduced to the Citizenship Award, which they can work towards throughout their time in primary school. They can achieve Bronze, Silver, and Gold by completing a range of challenges. More information can be found on the school website.

Reminders

  • Please continue to read with your child at least 5 times a week.
  • If possible, keep practising times tables on Times Tables Rock Stars.

Thank you, as always, for your support.
Have a lovely weekend.
