Summer 1 Week 5

We’ve had another busy and enjoyable week in Year 3.

The children have shown great enthusiasm across all subjects and it’s been lovely to see their confidence continue to grow.

This week in Maths, we have been developing our understanding of measurement.
The children have practised adding and subtracting lengths and have been converting between millimetres (mm), centimetres (cm) and metres (m). They are becoming much more confident in choosing the correct unit.

In English, we continued to innovate Chapter 2 of The Iron Man. The children have been working hard to include direct speech, using accurate punctuation and making sure their characters’ voices sound realistic.

In History, the children explored why Alfred chose Chippenham as a strategic location and learnt about what life was like during the Anglo‑Saxon period. They were fascinated to discover how different the town would have looked and what the Anglo-Saxons wore.

In Science, we looked closely at the results of our plant investigation. After removing one condition from each seed (light, water, soil or air), the children analysed what happened and discussed what plants truly need to grow and survive. They showed great scientific thinking and were able to explain their conclusions clearly.

As part of our Humanism topic in R&W, we learnt about Islamic beliefs about how the world began. The children compared this with other creation ideas we have studied and took part in thoughtful, respectful discussions.

As part of Mental Health Week, we joined a live lesson with Joe Wicks, which brought lots of energy and laughter to the classroom. The children also loved taking part in Flip It Friday — it was wonderful to see all the creative outfits, colourful hair and bright accessories. A lovely way to end the week.

Reminders

  • Please continue to read at least five times a week and record this in reading records.
  • Keep practising times tables regularly at home to build confidence and fluency.

We are looking forward to going to the Folk Festival next Friday.

Thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards

Miss Boddy :)
