Term 6, Week 1! 06.06.25

A great first week back to start our last term in year 2!
This week in English we looked at the book Journey by Aaron Becker, ready to complete part of a narrative for our whole school hot write! The children loved sharing their thoughts and ideas about the story of this book because it has no words. We thought about how the girl would be feeling and why and made predictions. We then thought about where our own magical doorway would lead and created expanded noun phrases to describe it.
In Maths, we started a unit on time. We started by recapping that the long hand on a clock is the minute hand and the short hand on the clock is the hour hand. We then looked at o'clock and half past before moving onto quarter past and quarter to.
Our clay had all of half-term to dry, so we painted them this week, and they turned out brilliantly! Mrs Henshall was so impressed that she put the whole class in the golden learning book.
In geography, we are continuing to look at our key question of 'How do humans impact the sea?' This week we focused on all the positive ways humans help the sea.
In science, we started a new key question: 'What do we need to stay healthy?' We started by looking at what animals need to survive, remembering that it includes humans. After finding out what the basic things animals need to survive, we created posters for an alien so they could have a human visit them (or have them as a pet!)
Star of the Week is….
Sydney for persevering with his maths work this week on time.
