Term 1, Week 8! 21.10.26

In English, we have been focusing on editing our writing and remembering when to use capital letters. We practised checking our work carefully to make sure we used capital letters at the beginning of sentences, for names and places. We also recapped the past tense and practised changing verbs into the past tense to talk about things that have already happened.

In Maths, we have been finding 10 more and 10 less. We used a hundred square to help us spot patterns and work out our answers. We discovered that when we add or subtract 10, the tens digit changes while the ones digit stays the same. We have been working hard to use this pattern to help us solve problems!

In Science, we carried out an exciting experiment to investigate our question: “What is the best material to make a map?” We tested paper, plastic and fabric to find out which material would be most suitable. After discussing our results, we decided that paper was the best material because it is lightweight and easy to fold, making it practical for carrying around. However, we also discovered that laminating the paper would make it waterproof! We enjoyed using our scientific skills to test materials, discuss our findings and explain our conclusions.

In Art, we continued to explore different ways of making lines and used our knowledge and skills to help us with observational drawing. We carefully looked at the details and shapes of familiar places and objects before creating our own drawings of our school logo and our local church. We practised looking closely, noticing details and using different types of lines to make our drawings more accurate.

We loved taking part in the dance festival today and watching everyone's dances. We loved them! The children did a great performance as pirates, and it was lovely to see them showing their dance skills to the whole school. Well done year 2!

PE for term 2 is Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Remember to keep up with your reading over half-term!

I hope you all have a lovely half-term, and we will see you again on Tuesday 3rd November 2026.
