Summer 1, week 5
What an exciting week it’s been in Owls Class!
We have been learning all about the life cycle of a butterfly. The children were fascinated to discover how a tiny egg grows into a caterpillar, transforms into a chrysalis, and then becomes a beautiful butterfly! We drew each stage of the life cycle and carefully labelled our pictures.
Even more exciting – our real caterpillars have been very busy this week. We’ve loved watching them grow and grow, and now they’re beginning to spin their cocoons! We are all eagerly waiting to see them transform.
As part of our butterfly learning, we also made our own symmetrical butterflies using natural resources we collected during our welly walk. The children loved finding leaves, petals, sticks, and other treasures outdoors, then carefully arranging them to create beautiful butterfly designs that were the same on both sides. A wonderful mix of nature, art, and maths!
In Maths, we’ve been exploring shapes in a fun and creative way. We read the book Perfect Square and were inspired to cut our own squares into different pieces. Then, we used the pieces to create brand-new shapes and pictures – from houses and rockets to animals and patterns.
Well done to our stars of the week, Billy and Saoirse! We are very proud of you!
Have a fantastic break.
