Summer 1, week 3
We started the week by planting sunflower seeds. The children were very excited to get their hands dirty and think about what might happen next. We talked about what the sunflowers might look like as they grow and made some brilliant predictions about how tall they could become. Some of the Owls had wonderfully imaginative ideas, suggesting their sunflowers might grow taller than the school or even as big as a dinosaur!
In Maths, we revisited subtraction and the idea of “taking away.” We had lots of fun singing songs such as 10 in the Bed and 10 Green Bottles, which helped us understand how numbers get smaller. The children then practised representing their learning using number sentences, showing how numbers change when we take away.
We also spent time developing our observational skills in art. The children carefully looked at different pieces of fruit and used their eyes to spot shapes, colours and details before creating their own drawings. It was lovely to see how focused they were and how much detail they included.
To keep our bodies active and minds calm, we enjoyed a yoga session where we practised a variety of poses. The children showed great balance, control and enthusiasm throughout.
A big well done to our Star of the Week, Conor! He always tries his best, shows a positive attitude to his learning and is consistently polite.
Have a lovely weekend
