Summer Term 1 Week 5

Flip it Friday Fun!

This week in Year 1, we have had another fantastic week full of exciting learning and fun activities!

In English, we have been innovating the story The Queen’s Hat and working together as a class to create our very own version called The Witch’s Spell Book! The children had lots of wonderful ideas and enjoyed changing parts of the story to make it magical and exciting. Next week, we are looking forward to writing our own stories independently using all the amazing ideas we have been practising.

In Maths, we have been learning how to add equal groups and have been introduced to multiplication through arrays. The children worked hard to spot patterns and organise objects into rows and columns to help them understand early multiplication skills.

In History, we learnt all about what a Coronation is. We watched clips from both King Charles III’s coronation and Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation to compare the special ceremonies. The children then took part in their very own coronation role-play, which was very exciting! We were even lucky enough to have Owls Class come and watch our performance.

In Science, we learnt about different parts of a plant and a tree. We drew our own trees and labelled them too. Moreover, we learnt why each part of a plant is important and what their job is for the plant.

In PSHE, we talked about what makes a good friend. Each child was given the name of someone in the class and shared kind words about why they are a good friend. Afterwards, we created self-portraits and wrote positive comments on each other’s pictures. It was a lovely activity that helped us celebrate kindness and friendship within our class.

We also had so much fun during ‘Flip it Friday’! We spent the morning learning about opposites and completed lots of exciting activities linked to the theme. One of our favourite activities was making upside-down cupcakes! It was wonderful to see all the crazy hair, fun outfits and special snacks everyone brought in to celebrate the day.
