Autumn 2 Week 3

This week has been Anti-Bullying Week. The children have done lots of learning about how to be kind, what makes a good friend, what to do if someone isn't being kind and what makes them all special and unique!

We kicked the week off by wearing odd socks on Monday to help celebrate difference. We spoke about how it is good we are all different and that each one of us has something about us that makes us amazing. The children passed around a mirror, speaking into it what they were good at, then we compared how we were all good at different things, but how that was a brilliant thing as it meant we can help and support each other with our unique talents!

Throughout the week, the children have been busy little bees, creating lots of beautiful artwork to help us remember our new school anti-bullying motto: 'Be Kind, Be Brave, Value Everyone'. They used watercolour paints to colour bees, exploring how the colours mixed and changed depending on how wet their brush was. They also painted and collaged some larger bumblebees which will soon be buzzing about our school corridor!

In our writing, we wrote about how we are good friends. We read the story 'I am (almost) always kind', which taught us to think about what other people might be thinking and feeling. It reminded us that not everyone is the same and so to be the best and kindest friend we can be, we need to listen to people and ask them about themselves. The children wrote sentences in their book using the sentence starter 'I am...' and completed it with a word about themselves that they thought was important. The children thought of some amazing sentences, including 'I am kind', 'I am helpful' and 'I am respectful'.

We have also been practising our Nativity songs this week! Your child will have brought home a letter with the details of the Nativity shows and ticket options, and a slip letting you know what their part is and what costume they will need. If either of these letters has not made it home to you, please do let me know and I can provide you with a new one! Due to the capacity of the hall, we are limited to 2 tickets per child. However, if there are any surplus tickets left over as we get closer to the time, they will go on a first come, first served basis.

We finished the week with a pyjama day to raise money for Children in Need! The children all looked very snuggly and cosy in their pyjamas and really enjoyed being able to wear something different to school! We spoke about what Children in Need meant and how the money is going to help children who are not as fortunate as us. If you have not already donated, you can find the Parent Pay link in the most recent newsletter. Thank you for your kind donations so far!

Congratulations to our Star of the Week this week... Freddie! Freddie has been working really hard to learn the lines and actions for the Nativity songs and has impressed all the teachers with his readiness to learn. Well done Freddie!

Next week the children will be learning about Diwali, creating Diya lamps and Rangoli patterns and even trying some Diwali celebratory foods to describe! Have a wonderful weekend! From Miss Slaney
