Spring 1 Week 3

Owls have been very busy this week!

We made paper chains to decorate the classroom and thought of different methods of joining to attach them together, including glue, tape and paper clips. We received a letter from Evil Pea saying that he had been hiding... inside our classroom!

The children worked hard as detectives to find him and write sentences using positional language to show where he was. We then designed our own 'super veggies' to help Supertato defeat the Evil Pea.

In maths we continued using our measuring skills to measure lots of different things in the classroom, including ourselves! The children used cubes as a unit of measurement and compared lengths of different items and people to find the longest and shortest.

We learnt about Chinese New Year, listened to the story of the 12 animals and talked about which animal we liked best. We learnt that it is the Year of the Dragon this year! We then used masks to help us act out the story.

Some potatoes appeared in our investigation station this week as we are growing our very own Supertatoes! The children were encouraged to draw and write about what they thought we might do with the potatoes and how they will change over time. The children used pictures and books to inform them and agreed we are going to plant them in soil to grow more potatoes!

There is no star of the week this week. Please can you remember to bring your books in on a Friday ready for changing. If books are not returned, we cannot send a new one home until the previous book has been given back in.

Next week, on Friday 26th January, the Eco Warriors will be holding a second-hand uniform sale! This will be a great opportunity to get any summer uniform bits for just a small donation to school. If you happen to have older children in school who have surplus out-grown uniform, and you wish to donate any to the second-hand uniform sale, this would be greatly appreciated! Please pass this on to Miss Slaney before Wednesday 24th January.

As the Owls are learning about 'People who help us', we will be having a meet and greet session in the last week of school (date TBC). This will be with people whose jobs help others. If you think your job would be interesting to talk about to the children, and you would be happy to come in to school and talk to a small group of Owls for 5-10 minutes, please do get in contact with Miss Slaney.

Have a lovely weekend!
