Spring 2 Week 3

Owls have absolutely loved World Book Week this week! We did lots to celebrate. The main talk of the school was the door decoration! Our class read 'The Koala Who Could' (more on that later) and so made leaves out of handprints and collaged/painted our very own koalas to sit on our tree. We thought about positive qualities we had and what made us strong, and thought about how we can keep on trying and say 'yes' to new things, helping us be resilient and brave like Kevin the Koala!

As part of our 'Around the World' topic this week, we 'travelled' to Australia! We learnt that Australia is hot, dry and very big! We learnt that koalas and kangaroos live there, and they are both marsupials (a type of animal that has a pouch on it's tummy to carry it's babies). We began reading 'The Koala Who Could' at our Linger and Learn session on Tuesday morning. We read up to when Kevin the Koala is stuck up a tree which is about to fall down! The children were challenged with drawing a solution to get Kevin down and labelling it. There were some very creative ideas, including a big dinosaur to get Kevin on his back, a hot air balloon or a bouncy castle for a safe landing! Thank you to all the parents who attended! It was wonderful to see so many of you there, engaging in the learning and supporting your children.

We have read lots of stories this week, including taking part in three different reading swaps! We had different teachers from across the school come and share their favourite stories with us and read to us. We also had to try and guess their props. The teachers all brought props into school this week to represent a story. Let's see if you can guess the Owls teachers' stories! Miss Slaney had a cardboard box (spaceship!), a colander and a fluffy owl toy. Miss Fuller had a tiger, a tea cup and a tea pot. Miss Maxwell-Brown had some paper dolls (big clue!). Mrs Dodd had a lizard in a jug and some super glue! (Answers at the end of the blog).

The children also greatly enjoyed talking about their wonderful 'story hats' which they wore to school on Thursday! Each child was given the opportunity to talk about their hat - what they liked about it, how they made it, and what story it was from. We also had the adults in class vote for some of the hats to win prizes! It was incredibly hard to choose as all of the children had put in so much effort and looked incredible! Our prizes went to: Evie (1st), Daisy (2nd), Kenzie (3rd), and our runners up were: Camilla, Esme, Oscar, Jayden, Teddy and Elara!

Well done to this week's star of the week... Kenzie! Kenzie always comes into school with such an enthusiastic and joyful attitude to her learning, and recently has been impressing her adults with her wonderful perseverance! Well done Kenzie!

Thank you so much to all the parents who baked cakes, bought cakes and volunteered to help run the Owls Class cake sale today! We were completely and utterly inundated with cake! So much so, that despite making over £140 just today, we have so much cake left that we thought we would have a second sale on Monday - just to help sell the rest of the remaining cakes (which are being safely stored at school over the weekend).

Have a wonderful weekend!
