Summer 1 Week 1

It was lovely to see the sun shining in our first week back this term!

Owls have made a start on our new topic 'New Life'. We went on a 'Spring life hunt' around the school grounds to find signs of new life. The children found bugs, bird nests, buds growing on the trees, spring flowers and lots more! We then wrote a descriptive sentence about what we found in our writing books.

We also have some exciting new arrivals to our classroom this week! We have 10 of our very own caterpillars which we will be looking after and observing as they grow and change over the coming weeks. The children had a brilliant time naming them and have loved watching them closely so far. They have used magnifying glasses to get a close-up view and used non-ficiton books to find out what types of butterflies they will grow into and find out about the life cycle of a caterpillar!

We have been really enjoying our outside space in the sunshine - we extended our water play by adding pipes and the tuff tray and observed the changes that had happened over the Easter holidays as this time had brought a lot of lovely spring flowers.

The children even had a go at doing some 'flower arranging'. This involved pouring water into their chosen container and arranging some of the flowers.

In maths, we have begun learning our number bonds to 10. The children know that a number bond is 'two numbers that, when added together, make another number'. We learnt that the number bonds to 10 are: 10+0, 9+1, 8+2, 7+3, 6+4 and 5+5. We also learnt a new song to help us remember them.
