Term 6 week 1 (10.6.22)

First week back...

It was lovely to return to school and share our Jubilee and holiday experiences through discussion and writing. Falcons were also challenged to continue to write a story for the whole school 'hot' write. The stimulus being a picture of a creaky door, in an old tree trunk with a mysterious character behind it! Over the coming weeks, we will continue to focus on developing our phonics knowledge, and our reading and writing will be based on the book 'The Tiger Who Came To Tea'

In science this week, Falcons planted a variety of mystery seeds and began to record information and observations in their seed diaries. We'll look forward to seeing what happens over the next few weeks. The pots will be in the window sill - take a peek!

In maths, Falcons have been using 'arrays' - these are a pictorial representation to help children understand times tables. Also, they have been doubling - multiplying by 2, and continuing to count in 2s, 5s and 10s.

Home learning

We will continue to provide weekly phonics activity mats, maths tasks on MyMaths (where applicable) and encourage regular reading as before. Reading with Y6 buddies has proved very successful and this will definitely continue in school. Reading at home is so beneficial, and we thank families who continue to achieve this.

Forest School

It was wonderful to spend Wednesday afternoon outdoors. The activities were based on teamwork (paired and group tasks). Falcons used their sense of touch to locate trees and collect natural items, and use their sense of smell to guess the plant and flower cocktails! Next week's session is in the morning as we have the 'Science Explorer Dome' in the afternoon.

Sports Day

Falcons have been practising and preparing for the different races in PE lessons this week. They are very much looking forward to taking part next Friday. On Friday, they will need to wear PE kit with a house colour t-shirt (where possible). Luckily, we have a guest GB athlete visiting on Thursday, so they will need their PE kit that day too!

In short:

Monday, Thursday and Friday - PE kit

Tuesday - uniform and Wednesday - Forest School kit (Falcons can come into school already changed).

What a busy and wonderful week ahead for us all!

Enjoy your weekend,

Mrs Boyd and Miss Brown
