Autumn Term 1
What a great first term back!
PE lessons this term:
EYFS/KS1:
This term in PE KS1 and EYFS have been developing their skills in PE using team games. We have focused on ball control, some passing, aiming and multi skills games.
Yoga:
Yoga for Years 5 and 6 has been a positive start to our year of yoga! Chie our wonderful yoga teacher has been continuing to help us develop our strength and balance as well as our positive mental health. At By Brook we feel that it is just as important to find those activities that calm and restore us as well as challenge and motivate us.
Swimming:
Year 4 have been enjoying their first round of swimming lessons this term and have shown great responsibility and care when being in and out of the water. Their behaviour around the pool has been excellent and has even been commented by the staff at the swimming pool. Well done Hawks!
Up and Under:
Years Rec, 1, 2, 3 and 5 have loved having Mr Peters from Up and Under come in to teach them all about gymnastics and to continue to develop the skills they learnt last year. They have played games, practised positions and techniques and have used the gymnastics apparatus in school.
Year 6 Gymnastics:
Forest School:
People often forget that Forest School is a wonderful contribution to the Physical Education and outdoor learning part of learning. This term Year 4 have enjoyed building dens, creating nature pictures, picking apples, lighting fires, roasting marshmallows and many more wonderful outdoor activities!
Biddestone Cross Country Event:
This year, myself and Mr Summers went to join the children who participated in the Biddestone Cross country event. We were blown away by the support that the By Brook children gave to one another and even thought we didn't leave with a medal, we left after having a brilliant time enjoying sport and celebrating what we can achieve together! Well done to those children who attended the cross-country event!
Sports Leaders:
This year our new sports leaders have been appointed for the year! Charlie, Charlie, Sienna and Harry were sports leaders from last year and have carried on that role as they enter Year 6. We now have several other sports leaders join our team! Matthew, Theo, Jai, Learhna, Sophia, Mabel, Alithea, Joey, Maggie, Arthur and Tigerlily are now also our Year 5 and 6 Sports Leaders for the year! We are looking forward to contributing to the PE and sport at By Brook this year!
Star of the week Extra Play time:
As we are a 'Healthy School' here at By Brook, we have chosen to celebrate our 'Star of the Week' children from this term with an extra playtime! At 1:30pm today Mrs Henshall and the Year 6 sports leaders took those lucky children out for a special extra playtime to say well done for being one of this terms 'star of the week' children! They had a lovely time playing in the sunshine and Mrs Henshall said it was 'the highlight of her week'!
What to watch out for next term!

Swimming: Year 4 will be continuing their swimming lessons each week.
Up and Under: Next term Reception, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3 and Year 5 will be doing Hockey with Mr Peters.
