Summer 1 Week 1

Ospreys have had a great first week back. It was lovely to see all the children and hear what they had been doing during the holidays.

In English, we started our new book Iron Man by Ted Hughes. We discussed what our predictions were for the story after looking at the front and back covers. The children had some great thoughts and wrote down their predictions. We read the first few pages, and we were hooked!

In Maths, we have continued learning about division. We learnt how to use partitioning for division and then learnt short division using the bus stop method. The children worked hard in our maths lessons this week. We will be starting our times tables races again next week.

We started our new topic in History, and will be answering our big question: Why was Alfred the Great a significant figure in Chippenham? We will be exploring who the Anglo-Saxons were and why they came to Britain.

We had a fantastic time at Marwell Zoo on Friday. Despite the long journey, the children were all excited to see so many animals. We had two talks from the zoo keepers and learnt about conservation and classification. We managed to see giraffes, tigers, a sloth, hippos and zebras as well as many more.

Please continue to read 5x a week as part of home learning.

Have a lovely weekend.

Miss Boddy :)
